Haven't read this one yet, but Can Man Live Without God is a tremendous book. Loaned it to a friend a few years ago. When he kindly returned it he said he and his son both read it on vacation and then went to Amazon to order 10 copies to pass around.

Truthfulness is a divine virtue. A man who speaks the truth always is loved by all. Truthfulness purifies mind. Man can never shine without speaking the truth.

Three things I have found to most effective in my prayer life are: (1) Start each day with prayer, giving thanks for the day and asking for His strength and guidance. (2) Pray for others during the day, as soon as you hear of or see their need, so that you don't forget; (3) End each day with prayer, asking for forgiveness for your shortcomings and for strength and wisdom to do better tomorrow.

Prayer is such an awesome privilege that allows us to talk with our Heavenly Father. We should never take that privilege for granted. I have seen and heard of so many answered prayers, and that has strengthened my faith and inspired me to pray even more. I love it when people give testimonies about their answered prayers. I think that it would be great to hear testimonies in church, maybe once a month, in order to glorify God and ensure that He is given the credit and the glory for all the wonderful things He does in our lives. Although many people may not like the idea of standing in front of the congregation to give a testimony, some may; and there are others ways to testify, such as video tapes, posters, skits, or articles in the announcements. I believe we should find ways to share the stories of our answered prayers. Let's give Him all the glory, for great things He has done!

It is such a joy to pray with the loving and dedicated prayer warriors at MorningStar. Thank you Mark for making prayer a priority!

I am currently reading a book by David Jeremiah, Prayer, the Great Adventure. I am being convicted of some of the things I do, we all do, when we pray. We give our lists to God and do not begin with praise, telling Him how awesome He is. We need to give him our list because if we really listen, he will set our priorities straight. He will rearrange everything and put it in His order. What could be better than that? That is as far as I am. I am looking forward to your sermons on prayer.

I'm not sure Mark of the direction you will take in discussing prayer, but I'd like to address some very simplistic aspects of prayer that a new Christian needs know, and a good reminder to the seasoned Christian.

The new Christian may wonder how should I pray? Whether praying privately, or corporately, sometimes one fears not having the right words to say, fear of what God or others may think. It's important to realize that praying is simply talking with God. God wants us to share our concerns, our wishes, our hopes, even our fears.

Leaders have for years tried to give structure to praying, when what's most important is talking with God openly, honestly from our hearts. He knows our needs and our concerns for others, if we stumble in expressing ourselves God understands. If we pray in public those around us will remember how it was when they first tried praying publicly, and will understand.

We certainly do not want to be just petitioners of God's help. We need always remember to praise Him for all He does, will do, and for who He is.

Another point for us to remember, new Christian or seasoned Christian, is that God does answer our prayers, in His time, and in His will. We sometimes may think God's not listening, that He hasn't answered our prayer(s), but it may be He has answered and we were not ready to hear, or accept, his answer. God knows what's in our best interest and that of those we pray for.

Praying to God is one of the greatest privileges we have. We have direct access to Him, at any time or place. He wants to hear from us, and for us to quietly hear Him.

So, how do we hear God? Through both reading and studying His word, and through our praying (talking) with Him on a regular basis from our hearts.

Proverbs 15:8; Psalm 63:1-5, The Lord delights in the prayers of His people.

"There are three duties of every christian: prayer, fasting and giving. Solomon when writing the books of wisdom for Israel made the point that a chord or rope braided with three strands is not easily broken> (Ecc. 4:12) Likewise when giving, praying and fasting are practiced together in life of a believer it creates a type of 30 fold chord that is not easily broken. In fact, as I'll show you in a moment, Jesus took it even further by saying nothing will be impossible. (Matt. 17:20) Could we be missing a greatest break throughs because we fail to fast? Remember the 30 fold, 60 fold & 100 fold returns that Jesus spoke of (Mark 4:8,20) look at it this way: when you pray you can release that 30 fold return. When both prayer and giving are a part of your life I believe that releases the 60 fold blessing. When all three, giving praying and fasting are parts of your life the 100 fold return can be released. If thats the csse you have to wonder what blessings are not being released! What answers to prayer are not getting through? What bondages are not being broken because we fail to fast?WHen we enter into a season of 40 days of fasting and praying we can break free of bondage in our own life and in the lives of the next generation."(Fasting by Jentzen Franklin)
Mark I know that you were asking questions about praying but I just felt like that is a part of prayer: fasting and giving. Please pick up this book and read it, I know it will change your view on prayer and fasting because it changed mine. We miss you and I would love to be able to hear your sermon series on prayer! Love ya Brother!

I pray several times a day, every day. Usually about the same topic..prayer without ceasing. I find I'm a bit of a worrier & dislike that in myself. So when I find myself start to worry, I pray instead. I try to talk to Him about everything and my style of prayer is very conversational. Sometimes if I've done something I know He doesn't like, I have a hard time talking to Him about it. Seems silly since He knows everything anyway.

oh my, Adoni does not need any reminders from us first of all, all thought the scriptures both old and new phrophets, prayed, all kinds of people both jew and greek. Adoni wants us to remember Him every second of our life here on this earth, we as mere flesh need to pray fervently and diglently every day and being grateful for ALL Adoni does be it good or be it bad(in our little minds at least), how should we pray? As a beliver in Yeshua we pray through Him to Adoni and donot forget the Holy Spirit He is our guide on earth. it is our responsiblity to pray and be thankful for what we have no matter how humble or meager. our beginning must be the fact that we know God and His ways and follow them.

Praying in public always makes my knees shake, any ideas on how to over come that?? I have my best prayer time early in the morning, I first thank the Lord for allowing me another day and then get my cup of coffee and weather permiting, go out to my back deck and: Look all around at the beauty that He has provided, listen to the birds singing, smell the air, look at our garden and the tomatoes, okra, beans, squash, cucumbers growing and enjoy the many colors of the flowers and thank Him for my sight, my hearing and my freedom. Then I usually sit down and talk to Him and sometimes it is out loud or simply in my mind. Many days I just might sit there and LISTEN, He always brings a person to my thoughts and I will act accordingly. My thought on this subject of prayer is that it does not have to have a certain form or it is not black or white. Teaching someone to pray when they are a small child is simple, just start off with a prayer at meal time and bedtime. I guess that is how I would teach someone to pray if they asked me how. Start off with many thanks for your blessings and grow from there. Having someone you trust is a plus, where you know you can call them and ask them to pray for certain problem or getting together and praying together always helps me. I guess I have many ideas and it is easier for me to put down my thougts and concerns on paper because when I am asked to speak or pray , I get very nervous and self-conscience and my knees shake. I am getting much better than I used to be. However I still think my back deck is my special place I can go to feel close to my Saviour and talk to Him on a personal basis. Complex creations we are!!
